Originally from Colorado, Sara is a health and movement enthusiast. As a former competitive athlete, she has a first-hand understanding of what is required of the physical and mental body for peak performance and execution.  Having completed post-graduate work in sports orthopedics, Sara specializes in pain management and injury rehabilitation; but, she also holds a keen interest in emotional imbalances, stress, allergies, insomnia and GI dysfunction, the last of which she believes is the key to all health.

Sara's former work included a residency at the NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center, where, by using protocol developed by MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering hospitals, she provided acupuncture treatment to patients to help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Sara has a growing private practice in the Union Square neighborhood in New York City. Current patients include the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and New York Knicks, along with parents, business professionals and any individuals seeking stress reduction and optimal health. Her goal is to help her clients return to peak performance, function and health. She believes that this medicine is so powerful in its healing capabilities, and she honors the opportunity to work with individuals in their goals to achieving optimal well-being.

In her spare time, Sara can be found sticking her feet in the grass at Prospect Park, playing a pickup soccer game, or hiking her beloved Colorado mountains.

Mary Hoey, M.S., L.Ac.

Mary grew up in the Pacific Northwest where she spent many years as a competitive gymnast, and then a basketball player, and then transitioned into running and yoga. The sports shifted over the years, but movement has always been integral to her health and wellbeing.

While training for the Brooklyn Half, Mary went to her first acupuncture appointment and realized that day - this is the thing she had been looking for.  After experiencing how acupuncture improved her physical, mental and emotional health, she started at Tri-State College of Acupuncture where she met and began working with Sara Vaccariello.

Mary has experience treating a myriad of conditions, from GI dysfunction to sports injuries and many conditions in between.  She holds a special interest in mental health, recovery, and alleviating the general stress of being a New Yorker.

More than anything, she believes in the power of investigation, curiosity, healing and finding balance - together. Outside of Avalon, Mary loves theater, taking the train to Rockaway beach where she pretends to know how to surf, and experimenting with homemade lotions and potions at her home in Bushwick.
